In the strobe-lit darkness of these temples to excess, everyone from the bartenders to the A-listers gravitated toward his magnetic presence. I'd watch, nursing my cheap beer, as he'd orchestrate the night with a subtle gesture here, a picture and a whispered word there. His legendary parties became the stuff of TMZ legend—where his marijuana magazine launch parties merged with his "Game of Hollywood" reality show casting calls. The glossy pages of Hollywood Scratch, L.A. Rocks, and Rock City magazines regularly featuring his events in double-page spreads, celebrities draped over leather couches beneath his watchful gaze.

Ruben didn't just promote the scene; he curated it with the precision of a museum director, handpicking tomorrow's bands from today's beautiful nobodies. Today, Ruben is still rockin' with his new book Hollywood Scenesters, and his three memoirs, called, Ruben goes to Hollywood.

“Ruben Goes to Hollywood” is the main memoir associated with Ruben MacBlue and his life around the Los Angeles entertainment scene and is described as an autobiographical story of Ruben’s life journey, including:

  • Growing up as a poor country boy in a strict religious home

  • Moving to Hollywood and entering the rock-and-party scene

  • Encounters with musicians, artists, and nightlife figures

  • Stories from decades around the Sunset Strip and Melrose music culture

The memoir mixes personal stories, photographs, and memories of the 1980s Hollywood rock scene.
